On July 14 local time, President Xi Jinping met with President Vladimir Putin of Russia in Fortaleza, Brazil.

Xi Jinping expressed that two months ago you visited China and attended the Shanghai Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). We reached a series of historic consensus on further promoting China-Russia relations and expanding cooperation in various fields, jointly pushing the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination to a new phase of development. Over the last two months, various departments and enterprises of both sides have had close contact and consultation, and various cooperation projects have been advancing, with which I am satisfied. As for China-Russia cooperation, we will keep our promises and deliver results. I hope that both sides strike while the iron is hot and fully implement the consensus we've reached.

Xi Jinping expressed that in the next move, China and Russia should continue to increase mutual political support, expand the depth and breadth of the cooperation, carry out more joint research and development, joint promotion and application and joint production and manufacturing in major strategic projects, take more practical joint action in areas such as military and security, and encourage and support joint education and joint cultural development in the people-to-people and cultural area. Both sides need to carry out more joint action in international affairs, join hands to push forward cooperation among BRICS countries, raise their voice and influence, improve global governance, promote the democratization of international relations and facilitate world peace and development.

Putin expressed that at the moment, Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination enjoys good development. He and President Xi Jinping both care for and promote bilateral cooperation. During his last visit to China, Russia and China had reached a series of major practical agreements. The Russian side stands ready to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to fully implement them as scheduled as well as to well plan future cooperation, expand bilateral trade and investment scale, focus on pushing forward cooperation in such areas as energy resources, science and technology, aviation and aerospace, transportation infrastructure and currency swap, initiate as early as possible the negotiation of Russia-China Western Gas Pipeline Agreement, continue to enhance coordination and cooperation within such frameworks as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the G20, join hands to facilitate the quota reform of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and jointly safeguard network security. He stands ready to continue to maintain close contact with President Xi Jinping and looks forward to coming to China to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Informal Leadership Meeting in November this year.

The two heads of state also exchanged views on issues of Syria, Afghanistan and so on.
