On August 18, 2014, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a briefing for Chinese and foreign media. Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jianchao introduced the relevant information of President Xi Jinping's state visit to Mongolia.

Liu Jianchao said that China and Mongolia are neighbors sharing the longest land border line. Mongolia is among the first countries that established diplomatic relationship with China. Over the 65 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relationship, friendship and cooperation have always remained the mainstream in the bilateral relations. In the past 20 years in particular, guided by the spirit of the "China-Mongolia Friendship and Cooperation Treaty", the China-Mongolia relations have constantly made new progress step by step. The Chinese government attaches high importance to the China-Mongolia relations and takes developing relations with Mongolia as a priority in its policy of neighborhood diplomacy. Currently, the China-Mongolia relations have been developing smoothly with frequent high-level exchanges between the two countries, constantly deepening political mutual trust, steady progress in practical cooperation in economy and trade, and continuously expanding exchanges in fields such as people-to-people and cultural engagement. China remains the biggest trading partner and investment source of Mongolia for many consecutive years.

Liu Jianchao said that it's the first time for President Xi Jinping to visit Mongolia after taking office and the second visit to Mongolia by Chinese President after 11 years, which is of great significance for the development of the China-Mongolia relations. Both sides attach great importance to this visit and have made plenty of careful preparations. During the visit, President Xi Jinping will hold talks with President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, sign and release important political documents between the two countries, and jointly witness the signing of a series of bilateral cooperative documents covering fields such as politics, economy, trade, finance and people-to-people and cultural engagement. President Xi Jinping will also meet with Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia Zandaakhuugiin Enkhbold and Prime Minister Norovyn Altankhuyag, address the State Great Hural of Mongolia, attend economic and trade activities and so on. President Xi Jinping and the leaders of Mongolia will comprehensively sum up and review the fundamental experience and significant achievements in the development of the China-Mongolia relations, make a strategic planning for the future development of the bilateral relations, and chart the course for the development of the China-Mongolia relations in the next period to make China and Mongolia mutually trustworthy and responsible good neighbors, good partners and good friends. The two sides will further clarify the approach to economic and trade cooperation, namely, a comprehensive and balanced promotion of the "trinity" of cooperation in the exploitation of mineral resources, infrastructure construction and finance, and give priority to connectivity and cooperation in major projects of mining and energy, so as to push the bilateral practical cooperation for new breakthroughs. The two sides will launch a batch of major programs in people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and expand bilateral personnel exchanges to further enhance understanding and friendship between each other. The two sides will also exchange views on strengthening cooperation in the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, and on jointly advancing the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

Liu Jianchao said that he believes with the joint efforts of both sides, President Xi Jinping's visit will certainly and comprehensively raise the level of the China-Mongolia relations, and vigorously push forward the mutually beneficial cooperation and friendly exchanges between the two countries, so as to provide greater help to the respective development of China and Mongolia and make greater contributions to promoting regional peace and prosperity.
