On March 28, 2023, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang held talks with Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Zambry Abd Kadir in Beijing.

Qin Gang said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will soon come to China to attend the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference and pay an official visit to China. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Malaysia comprehensive strategic partnership, and next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. China is advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization, and Malaysia is moving toward the Malaysia Madani proposed by Prime Minister Anwar. Noting the right timing of Prime Minister Anwar’s visit, Qin Gang expressed the belief that the leaders of the two countries will draw a blueprint for the development of China-Malaysia relations in the new era.

Qin Gang said that at present, the international and regional situation is undergoing profound and complex changes, and the future of all countries are closely connected like never before. As developing countries in Asia, important emerging economies and progressive forces on the international stage, China and Malaysia should further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, consolidate enduring friendship, address risks and challenges in solidarity, and contribute more to international and regional peace, stability, development and prosperity. Efforts should be made to deepen high-quality cooperation, make top-level planning for cooperation, advance key projects at a faster pace, and explore more cooperation in such areas as new-energy vehicle, digital economy, semiconductor and agriculture. The two sides should strengthen strategic coordination, uphold open regionalism, practice true multilateralism, defend international fairness and justice, and jointly safeguard the long-term interests of the vast number of developing countries and emerging economies.

Zambry extended congratulations on the success of China’s Two Sessions and President Xi Jinping’s re-election. Noting that Malaysia and China are all-weather good friends with a close and sincere relationship, Zambry expressed confidence that Prime Minister Anwar’s visit to China will elevate the Malaysia-China friendship to new heights. Malaysia is ready to work with China to further strengthen high-level interactions and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, expand practical cooperation in various fields, jointly safeguard regional peace and stability, and promote greater development of bilateral relations. Malaysia is committed to joint efforts with China to build an even closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest and concern.
