On October 14, 2011, Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

Li spoke highly of Rice's efforts in reinforcing bilateral ties during her term as U.S. secretary of state. He said that President Hu Jintao's successful visit to the U.S. in January this year opened a new stage for the two countries to jointly build a cooperative partnership of mutual respect and mutual benefit. Sino-U.S. relations have maintained stable development in general and the cooperation and coordination at bilateral, multilateral and global levels are fruitful. Li also called on the U.S. to bear in mind the overall interests of Sino-U.S. relations, respect China's core interests and grave concerns, properly handle sensitive issues, and work with China to push forward bilateral ties.

"Sino-U.S. economic and trade ties have the distinctive feature of mutual benefits," Li said. China is gravely concerned about the U.S. Senate's passing of the Currency Exchange Rate Oversight Reform Act, Li said, noting that politicizing economic and trade issues can only harm Sino-U.S. economic and trade ties, instead of resolving the economic and employment problems of the United States. It will also obstruct the global economic recovery and sustainable growth. "China hopes U.S. relevant parties and all sectors of the society can reject protectionism and create a favorable environment for the healthy development of bilateral economic and trade relations," he said.

Rice expressed her willingness to further advance the bilateral relationship and economic and trade cooperation.
