On June 13, 2012, Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with visiting Myanmar Foreign Minister U Wunna Maung Lwin in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.
Li said that China and Myanmar are important neighbors for each other and share a profound traditional friendship that is worth cherishing. "Amid complex and profound changes in the regional and global situation, it is of vital importance to further consolidate and enhance China-Myanmar relations," Li said. China attaches importance to developing ties with Myanmar and would like to work closely with Myanmar to maintain the overall situation of bilateral friendly cooperation and take a long-term perspective to develop bilateral ties based on the fundamental interests of both sides, he said, pledging to boost the two countries' all-round strategic cooperative partnership.
Li said China and Myanmar are both developing countries that shoulder the arduous tasks of developing their economies and improving their people's livelihoods. Expanding China-Myanmar trade cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit is a set policy of the Chinese government, said the vice premier. Li called on the two countries to adhere to the principle of equal treatment, remove all obstacles, expand substantial cooperation, properly settle existing problems and protect the legitimate rights of enterprises to ensure smooth progress of bilateral cooperative projects and promote sound and steady growth of bilateral trade and investment. More in-depth cooperation between the two sides can increase the benefits of both peoples.
U Wunna Maung Lwin said his government highly values its friendly cooperative relations with China and cherishes the "Paukphaw" friendship between both peoples. Myanmar will continue its support for China on issues regarding China's core interests, he added. Myanmar will facilitate major cooperative projects between the two countries and push forward bilateral ties.
Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended the meeting.
