Senior Colonel Wu Qian, former spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, has been appointed as the Defense Attaché at the Chinese Embassy in Egypt.
A reception was held on July 24 by the Chinese Embassy in Egypt to celebrate the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and welcome the new Defense Attaché.
At the event, Ambassador Liao Liqiang introduced Wu to attending guests. He extended congratulations on the 98th anniversary of the founding of the PLA, and noted that under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, relations between China and Egypt—including military-to-military ties—have witnessed robust growth, setting a model for cooperation between major developing countries.
He emphasized that Premier Li Qiang's recent visit to Egypt laid a solid foundation for implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state and for deepening the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership.
As this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, China stands ready to work hand in hand with Egypt and the international community to jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind, he added.
Wu stated that as the newly appointed Defense Attaché, he will make every effort to promote practical cooperation between the Chinese and Egyptian armed forces in areas such as high-level exchanges, joint exercises and training, and personnel development, contributing to regional peace and stability.
Attending guests watched a photo exhibition on Chinese armed forces, a promotional video of the Chinese military "The Guardians" and an exhibition of models showcasing China's main battle equipment. They spoke highly of China's significant contributions to safeguarding world peace and stability, and expressed their best wishes for continued progress in the development of China-Egypt relations, including ever-closer military-to-military cooperation.
More than 500 guests attended the event, including Major General Mitawali, representing Egypt's Minister of Defense, and Major General Mansour, representing the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces. Also present were friends from various sectors of Egyptian society, foreign diplomats and defense attachés stationed in Egypt, as well as representatives from Chinese enterprises, the Chinese community, and Chinese students studying in Egypt.
